Mac Mini Colocation | Mac Mini Dedicated Servers | Services | FAQ
What’s included?
With each Mac mini account you get the following:
- Remote Control Access: Allows you to remotely cut the power to your server
- 100mb/s port off our distribution switches. We have standardized on 100mb/s links which allows you to burst to 100 Mb/s preventing potential bottle necks
Getting started with Server OS
Under the Mac mini colocation model, when using Mac OS X Server or Lion Server, you should configure the hostname and PTR record on the Mac mini before shipping it to the Data Center. We will then build the server, allocate your static ip address, and setup SSH and VNC / Screen Sharing.
Having issues getting your app to run on Lion?
Not a problem as we carry older generation Macs in stock. Customers have the option of colocating their Mac mini at our Data Center or purchasing the units through Clarity to host under a colocation package. These Macs are also available under the Mac mini dedicated servers model in which customers will have peace of mind that a 1 hr SLA on hardware is included. This means that if anything breaks at the hardware level (Ram, HD, Processor) we fix it.
How do I access my server?
Accessing your Mac could not have been easier. Nothing extra is needed for the standard installation as the OS comes with Apple Remote Desktop or VNC / Screen Sharing free of charge. By using these tools, it is just like sitting in front of your Mac while being in a remote location.
Rebooting your Mac remotely
This is an important feature allowing you to remotely cut the power to your Mac. However you need to ensure the power settings are correctly configured to allow the server to turn on after a power cut. Access is restricted by ip address over a secure site with a unique user name and password to access your power ports.
Help setting up your Mac mini?
In addition to offering hosting services, we also engineer infrastructure solutions for our clients. Let us know what you need configured and we can give you some options.
Can I access my Mac physically?
In order for us to maintain the high level of security in our Data Center, only certified DC technicians are allowed access. You are able to remove your Mac, configure it off site, and the return the unit should the need arise.
What do you need me to send in with my Mac mini?
Just the Mac mini, and that’s it. Due to the density of our racks we use custom power cables. If the unit is not configured we have the software on hand to perform the configuration. All we may need are the serial keys.
How can I backup the data on my mini?
At an additional cost you can add an external drive to your server. Our recommendation is to use the internal drives for daily functions and a partitioned USB enclosure with daily clones of the working drive using SuperDuper. This is useful in case you need to boot from the image. The rest of the drive can run backups with Time Machine.
I am not familiar with the local firewalls. Can you ensure secure access to my Mac mini at the network layer?
Yes, we also offer dedicated or shared firewall services that you can add to your account. By using one of these services, we will manage access to your Mac and you can leave the firewall services off.
